Even though we are having some incredible weather in RI we train outside every day and go to the beach most days for off leash recall and pack training

Marley was at the beach for the first time for offleash ecollar recall training

Tilly is up with me from NYC for some babyproofing and as usual Clover helps out with traiining

Just picked up a treadmill for $100.00 and set it up in my office so dogs can exercise and train while I am getting office work done

Dog Electrocuted on manhole Cover, LUNA RIP

This dog was very close to myself, my family and my staff, Luna spent almost 3 of her short 8 months at my facility in a board and train program. Luna had amazing skills and training and will be sadly missed by all of us.

above is a link to the news story, it is a terrible tragedy. When reading the comments posted, so many people are upset with Narragansett Electric. this is just a waste of energy, it was an accident, a terrible one at that.

King of the beach

I love doing off leash recall work with dogs, the video below is with 6 dogs, 3 are from my personal pack and 3 are clients dogs, Tilly and Jones are from NYC and King the large GSD is from RI, he came to me pretty much untrained with a nice little dog aggression issue within 2 weeks he has acclimated with other dogs as well as worked on all of his commands. This is his first off leash excursion and he does great.

One of the benefits of my board and train program is the intensity of the work we do on a daily basis, there is never excuse for bad weather or if we are not in the mood to train, dogs get worked constantly every day and they love the work. I would feel comfortable at this point with taking King off leash in public to work him

6 dogs, 6 degrees and 60 minutes

today I ran a 6 dog pack in 6 degree weather for 60 minutes at a local beach, the bay was frozen over and we had lots of fun. To me this is why I train so hard, so I can unleash the true spirit in dogs

this is the pack heading back to the van after running around, having a stable pack allows the dogs to be off leash and they stay with the pack leader ME.

Uma, Jones and Tilly had a great time running into the water..it was both physically and mentally exhausting for the dogs

the dogs had a great time running on the ice

a fun video from this afternoon

Treadmill video

I put together a little video from the last few days of treadmill work, all dogs that come onto my property learn how to walk on a treadmill, it is such an important part of a mental and physical exercise program

Dog Bites are part of the job

I got a nice dog bite the other day, I think this one brings it over 100 dog bites since I have been training dogs.

this one happened within the first 30 second of walking into a clients house, dog came rushing out of a bedroom, ran over to me and jumped up and bit me on the wrist , 2 nice puncture wounds. Oh well, after pouring some peroxide onto ithe wound and taping it up we started training the dog.

all of the dogs have been loving the snow, we work the dogs outside all day no matter what the weather is, they love it.

King has had a great first week with us, he will be working on doing some intense work on distractions, he is quite easily distracted and will break commands. on week 2 of dogs stays we can start upping the challenge with the dogs to make them work harder.

check out my next seminar and get your tickets today, notice the early bird tickets as well as a donation option for the folks that cannot attend but want to make a donation to the cause

To NYC and Back

yesterday I headed down to NYC to deliver Bean to his owners  as well as to pick up 3 new dogs from clients to bring back for a 2 week board and train at the kennel.

Beans was all curled up on the front seat, I also took Max with me

the highway was pretty intense, slipper sleet and rain, I made it to NYC in one piece

This was typical of what I saw on the trip to NYC, a lot of people did stay off the highway, if you are not familiar with RI I live about 180 miles from Manhattan

When I got there I went to my first clients apt and I had one of the nicest surprises in a while

a wonderful new baby

I could not wait to grab this little baby and start feeding...using my magic Papa touch

I ended getting back at midnight long 18 hour day on the road, but it is always worth it to get dogs from my clients and start the training process

Eating like a king

Today was a plethora of carnivourous debauchery as a went from client to client.

It all started this morning in Jamaica Plain, MA early this morning as I picked up Bowie from his home for a nice 10 day stay at the kennel

This dog has given me the onion bagel with a shmear of cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers...nice..

Then off to East Greenwhich to work with a family with a young puppy for some training and some dog/dog socialization

Roca loves meeting kids and having so many families as clients Roca gets plenty of meet and greets and since he looks and feels like a bear the kids love him.

With this client I enjoyed some home made pizza with pesto sauce after doing some nice training

Then off to Wrentham to work with a clients dog that needed some off leash recall work and dog/dog work. I had Max, Uma and Roca with me and they always helps out with dog/dog issues.

Ivy learned so much today...

After this training I enjoyed a wondefful home made meatball sandwich...

Busy day and lots of fun.. was had by all

Frozen Oceans in Rhode Island

I had a wonderful off leash training session at the ocean today, the bay was frozen and the dogs had a great time navigating the ice.

Chance has come such a long way since I have started working with him, for him to play tug with Uma is huge

Max breaks through the ice to get his ball, I only let him go out a few feet onto the ice which is only 2 feet deep once he fell through

I love this picture of Uma at the ocean today

King came in late last night for a 2 week board and train

Surviving the storm

For all  of us living in New England we know that we just got a little snowfall in our city we had about 18" and we ahve been having lots of fun. Clover who at 5 has the wisdom and energy of an incredble dog trainer, here she is in the play yard with a pack of dogs, walking freely, not one dog jumps on her, nips her or challenges her.

Clover is up in the tree, she needs the rope to help her swing off the try.

Looks like those 2 are quiet connected

After the storm we headed to the beach for some pack fun

4lb dog with a 104lb attitude

Paco came over this afternoon for a little dog/dog socialization, he has a biting issue with humans as well as some anti social behavior with other dogs

The only answer for a dog that has dog/dog play and greeting skill issues is to bring in the big guns for such a large dog

Roca one of my best greeters with little dogs.

Roca I don't think you need to get up on the deck in order to tower over this 4lb dog, I think he gets the message

Paco!? Paco1? WTF Roca have you seen Paco, he was just right in front of you....

Look who got adopted out this week, Missy, she was in rescue for a long time, she finally found a forever home with a nice retired gentleman that has all day to hang out with her.

Day one of Beans Training (video)

We got a dog in from NYC yesterday and his first 24 hours have been filled with lots and lots of training.

The video below is from day one of training

With my training we don't repeat commands, so the command was given to Bean of DOWN, and he lays down, you see him get up about 1/2 way through the video and I say NO,which means put it in reverse and go back to what you were doing which is a Down, the 2nd time he breaks I had to start all over and did a film break. Clover and Romy usually are not allowed to run around the house screaming but for dog training they can. I need dogs to not go after fast moving and screaming chidren. I need them to ignore children running around.

Roca does some iceskating at Lincoln Woods today, it was quite cold and windy out, the dogs love it though, we did some great off leash work

the dog in the foreground is only 15 weeks old, this is our last training session, her owner is moving to SC this week. we started 6 weeks ago, the dog does a sit/stay, down/stay, place command, proper heel, is housebroken, has no seperation anxiety, does not table or counter surf, plays with other dogs nicely and is not afraid of big dogs. She also has 100% recall off leash, we have done all of this before the dog is 5 months old when most people don't eve think about training there dogs. The dog does all of the commands with distractions as well and as her owner continues to train her she will get better and better. Most dogs at this age are still just going to puppy kindergarten, why would you not want to train your dog from the minute you bring the dog home.
