New dog alert, New dog alert, almost everyday new dogs come in and new dogs go out. Today was Stela's day to come in. Looks like Scout and her played all day long

Scout made Stella feel right at home, Stella (left) came in today and Scout on the right who is only 16 weeks old has made her feel very welcome

Life with us is not all play, we usually match play 2/1 to work, for every 2 hours of free time the dogs get 1 hour of work time.

Swimming pool is open

Today was the first official day the pool was open, usually we open the pool in March, but last fall our pump motor broke and not having the 600 plus dollars for the part and labor we decided to close it for the winter. Today was great, the dogs had a wonderful time.

Uma was the first one in the pool as usuall

Train and Play, Train and Play

What a great crew of dogs we have on the property, so many of the dogs have come to us with dog/dog issues and the best way to work on this is by putting the unstable dog ina pack of stable dogs. We do this all the time and it seems to be working quite well.

Dog Fight

One of the biggest issues that dog owners face is aggression in dogs both towards humans as well as other dogs. I am one of the few trainers who truly understand this type of behavior in dogs. I am highly succesful when dealing with these type of issues, and one of the reasons is that I don't accept these types of behaviors and I call it "bad behavior" instead of aggression, I think that aggression is often diagnosed wrong most of the time, sort of like ADHD is overdiagnosed. I am not discounting the fact that it exists, just not as much as we are told it is. So....what do you do about it, FIX IT and that is whre I come in. I am not afraid of any dog and I won't take failure as an option.

Jessie came to me this week from NYC with some bad behavior that needed to be addressed in a stable pack environment.

We focus on the basics in order to to show behavior expectations with the dogs.

Never do this yourself, do not bring an unstable leashed dog into a group of off leash dog unless you understand dog energy, one mixed signal from any of those dogs we are looking at a dog fight. on the other hand this is the best way to get a reactive dog to be non-reactive is to put them in a controlled situation and train them to have better coping skills. You need to be in touch with your inner energy and pay attention to the energy in your immediate area. You need to be able to envision dogs succeeding and never failing.

then the leash comes off and away we go, Jessie did great today both off leash and on, with a stable pack of dogs, I am so proud of all of my dogs for creating good energy in order to train and rehab Jessie

One of the benefits of having a 4 year old dog trainer on the property is that we are able to do the distraction dance on a daily basis, this is something that is unique to my board and train facility and has been seeked out from all corners of the world in order to duplicate. It just cannot be done. it is proprietary and is a family secret going back to 1600's. It gets passed down from generation to generation

Sunshine is fun to train in

Over the last week or so I realize I have not blogged, I was not able to blog much. What a crazy week getting ready and then going out to San Diego, CA for my annual IACP conference. No matter if I am at the kennel or not, dogs need to get trained and my wonderful staff headed by my Jon makes sure that this happens.

Remy shows Lincoln the ropes in the play yard, looks like a family is going to be taking him t the end of the week.mmmm...from a shelter in RI that thought he was aggressive, to my place for rehab and then to a family in less than 2 weeks..sounds like a play...

Cesar Millan and Jeff Gellman bond in San Diego

I just came back from San Diego after attending the IACP annual conference, yes this is the organization of dog trainers from around the world who loyaly believe in the system of dog trainiing that I preach about is an excellent way to train dogs and superior than traditionally food/clicker methods that are more designed for the inside agility courses and not the real world like I do.

It was a wonderfully time that connected me with some wonderful fellow trainers from around the world but also exposed me to some potential new partnerships for my radio show which peaked a lot of peoples interest.

Cesar Millan was an awesome speaker, very funny, extremely humble. He talked for over 2 hours about what he does and not once did he talk about dogs, heeling, sitting, downing or recall. That is because that is not what he does, he talks about our relationship with dogs and why we are having so many problems with our dogs. He talked about everything, from when he jumped the border of the US and entered illegally to where he is today. He was always amazed at the fact that when he first came to this country people actually used leashes on there dogs and they also talked to them. He used to walk 20 or so dogs off leash  and they would walk behind him and the police would stop him and tell him that he was not allowed to walk dogs off leash, but people who had dogs on a leash but were being dragged by the dog is allowed...
